iaria: (River Song - Spoilers (Doctor Who))

Closing Time

I had a couple issues with the episode but overall it was very fun and I enjoyed it.

- “Oh, you’re redecorated. I don’t like it.” / “It’s a different house. We moved.” Hee.

- "Humans don't have an off switch. Believe me, I've checked." LOL. So which of his Companions is he thinking of there? You know Nine totally wished Mickey and Jackie had off switches.

- Stormageddon dark lord of all. Heh.

- You know I love how Craig just goes with the Doctor being able to talk to his baby son. No disbelief at all.

- Doctor grinding pepper on Craig and then massaging his shoulders - random but funny.

- “You’ve got your noticing face. (Doctor covers his face) I’ve had nightmares of that face.” Hee.

- “I’m going. Do you hear me, going. Not staying, going. I am through saving them. I’m going away now.” I loved the Doctor muttering to himself. Also loved him telling his sonic screwdriver to shut up.

- Eleven really is wonderful with kids.

- “Look they gave me a badge with my name on it in case I forget who I am. Very thoughtful as that does happen.” LOL. And he gave 'The Doctor' as his name and they accepted it?

- “Because I love you. Yes, Craig, it’s always been you.” “A bit out of practice but I’ve had some wonderful feedback.” Hee. So Craig a] is not straight and b] has a bit of a crush on the Doctor. See the fact that he wasn’t freaked out by the Doctor’s ‘admission’, that he didn’t pull away at first, that when he thought the Doctor was going to kiss him he closed his eyes, and the reason he pulled away was because he was already taken and not because he didn’t want the Doctor to kiss him.

- Wait, so Craig is going to go investigating with the Doctor while toting around his baby son? And neither of them find that to be a really bad idea?

- “People like it when you’re with babies. Babies are sweet. People talk to you. That’s why I usually take a human with me.” Hee.

- “Partner, yes, I like it. Is it better than companion?”

- “It’s a coincidence! Happens. It’s what the universe does for fun.” I couldn’t help but think about how if instead of Amy and Rory the Doctor had seen Martha and Mickey or Donna and Wilf. I did love his expression when he saw Amy and Rory though. Aw, poor Doctor.

- Petrichor – ‘For the girl who’s tired of waiting.’ Amy created a perfume and is a model? That’s... kind of random actually. The little girl asking for her autograph makes me wonder if she’s famous for something else. Is she a celebrity?

- So wait we get two deaths out of four store employees and it’s the two non-Caucasian workers who die while the two white ones survive?

- Just how long has it been for the Doctor between this and the last episode? A couple hundred years right? Huh. I am not sure how I feel about that. I mean this Doctor is hundreds of years older so he should, in personality or someway, be different. But he's not really. What did he do in those missing centuries? I just can't see him travelling alone.

- Aw, he was going to confess the truth to Craig. He just wants to talk to someone he cares about.

- “I’ve always believed. In all of you. All my life.” And now we know exactly what it is the Doctor has faith in. His companions, humans, people of all kinds.

- I’m glad that Craig wasn’t converted – I like Craig and really the Doctor needed a win - but it did make me go 'really?' a lot. They can't convert you if you fight back? Really?

- So now we’ve had two stories in the latter half of this season about parents and their love for their child – one saved his son with his love for him, the other saved himself because of his love for his child. So foreshadowing for the final episode then? My guess is that it’s going to showcase/involve Amy and/or Rory being the parents of River and their love for her being a saving force in some way? It makes me sad actually because I still feel like the main place the show really fell down this season was with the Amy/Rory parental relationship with Melody/River

- LOL the Doctor looking in the fridge because Craig had wondered in the beginning if there were aliens in there and he wanted to make sure there weren’t.

- Aw, Craig gave the Stetson to the Doctor.

- That scene with the Doctor and the three kids at the end didn’t really work for me. Why were they so interested in him? Why did they care enough to later write down their remembrances about that encounter? It made me think about Craig wondering if the Doctor gave off a gas to make people love him.

- “What are those things?!” - River Uhm, that felt false to me. She knows about aliens, she’s lived surrounded by them, I just can’t see her reacting to an unknown species like that.

- Wait, River’s a Doctor now? So the show has thrown out that whole ‘their time lines move in different directions’ completely then? Because in the angels’ duo wasn’t River still only a professor and didn’t know she would become a doctor? I am confused.

- I really didn’t love how the end with River played out. Her studying the Doctor (because it's always about the Doctor for her), and then her being drugged and stuffed into the astronaut suit. And apparently her memory has been seriously messed with? It just left me feeling meh. I really wish she actually had as much agency in her life as it had appeared in her first episodes.
