Revenge 1x02 Thoughts

I am still really enjoying this show.
• I really like Emily and I feel for her even though she is really not a hero. In the pilot her revenge didn’t involve any collateral damage but this week it really did – all of the investors who lost a lot of money (maybe even ruining some of them) as well as all of Harmon’s employees who are now unemployed. The show never really dealt with it, and maybe it will, but that was pretty dark of her and she didn’t even blink. I love it because it does suddenly ups the stakes if she doesn’t care about that.
• I’m also enjoying Victoria and all the Victoria/Emily interactions.
• I’m a little surprised at the show making Daniel what seems to be a reformed party guy who is genuinely a nice guy now. He seems sweet even. I think it’s not 100% sure that it was Daniel who dies in the future (Charlotte never saw his face before running screaming) and the more I see of him the more I hope that he wasn’t the one shot.
• I was glad that Emily wasn’t finished with Lydia even though she’d crossed her face off the picture. I like that it won’t just be her doing one act of revenge on one person an episode and then she’d be satisfied and it won’t be brought up again. I also liekd that her photographs were actually used.
• Nolan’s expressions when Emily waved to him at the match and then hugged him outside the restaurant as well as him bribing Jack to pretend to be his friend was so sad and I found myself feeling for him a lot this episode. He just wants a friend! He wants someone to like and care about him, so yeah, sad. At the same time he’s so needy and desperate that if anyone ever did reach out to him I can see him being so clingy that he’d drive them away. Then he would get revenge on them because tha also really seems like the type of guy he is. And yet I find myself hoping he finds a friend.
Oh, and I liked that Nolan seemed sincerely uncomfortable when he realised Jack’s reason for selling him the boat.
• I’m enjoying the Emily/Nolan relationship a lot. I like how they’re both allies and not, that there is a lot of distrust between them but they’re also the only ones that know the truth and want the same thing. Right now Nolan clearly cares about her (because of her father – I wonder if he was hoping that with their shared love for him he would finally get someone to call friend/family?) and wants to help her and be a part of her life and she just does not care but I’m hoping that’ll change. Not soon but that slowly over the season she’ll begin to trust him and relay on them and both of them will find a true friendship together that both of them clearly really need.
• I loved the scene where Nolan gets in his car and Emily is sitting in the backseat. Like a serial killer. And she actually managed to be pretty intimidating too.
• I’m hoping that everything Victoria may find in Emily’s past – the thing with the board and Lydia’s husband, the sealed 2 years in ‘her’ life – are actually traps that Emily has laid out.
