iaria: (Nikita and Alex (Nikita))

Game Change

It started slow but ended up being a great episode.

“Then I lost her because that’s what I deserve.” – Nikita. Oh, Nikita. I kind of love that Nikita’s epic angst now is about Alex and Nikita's relationship with her. That it was losing Alex and how things played out with her that has Nikita second-guessing her plans.

• I love the new Division set up. It makes much more sense to me. Amanda is already doing better than Percy.

• I really like that Alex isn’t still a part of Division but is working as an independent contractor.

• The first Amanda/Alex/Sean scene was great. I love the tension between Alex and Sean and I already like him as a foil for Alex. Is he a potential love interest for her? Because I can definitely see myself being interested in that.

• Percy living in a Magneto-like cell now amuses me.

“There’s no way out.” – Nikita. I don’t buy her saying that. That line just didn’t work for me.

• I also don’t know that I buy Division just allowing someone like Birkoff to just walk away. Not only just his skills, but all that knowledge of Division as well. Yeah, I don’t buy it. Did he blackmail Amanda or something? Perhaps he’s part of some further plan of hers?

“Aw, nerd, you’re lonely. You’re lonely, and you have no friends, and you missed us so you saved us. Thank you.” – Nikita, she hugs Birkoff. LOLOL I loved this. It was adorable and clearly Nikita was completely right.

• Of course Michael would understand Alex. I like that. I think in some ways Nikita is too emotionally compromised/invested and that Michael might be the better person to deal with Alex. He cares for her as well but he has a lot more distance than Nikita, including not feeling her guilt, and he understands Alex’s motives perfectly. I really want a Michael/Alex scene now.

• I liked Percy bringing up Alex’s mother. It makes me wonder if perhaps there is more to Katya then Alex and we know. I hope so.

“Where’s Nikita? Shouldn’t I be talking to the person in charge?” – Amanda. I loved everything about that. Since this is Amanda I’m sure it was her trying to get to Michael and it even appeared to succeed a little. He reacted angrily, or so his “I’m in charge” seemed to indicate, but I think that was him playing a role too. Or at least I hope so. He’s never seemed to be unhappy about Nikita being in-charge or insecure about taking orders from her. I’d hate if the show tried to introduce tension between them by implying he was uncomfortable about it. Especially since I don't think it does make sense for his character.

• Birkoff losing it at his former Division coworkers thinking they could be as smart as him was hilarious.

“By the way, Birkoff is not working with us.” – Michael. LOL. Perfect delivery.

“Remember this. I did this because I care.” – Nikita. Yikes. That was brutal. I mean I’m sure it’s true and Nikita does have a history of showing her love by shooting people – see Michael in the pilot – but wow she was harsh. A little bit of an overreaction, in fact. How exactly was that supposed to convince Alex of anything? I think Nikita made a mis-step with this.

At first I couldn’t think of why she would be that violent but then thinking about it more – she shot Alex in the leg, broke her arm – so perhaps she was simply trying to take her out of the field for awhile and giving her more time to rethink her actions. But she had to know that Division would be picking Alex up and that while recovering Alex wouldn’t be happy with her. In fact I think it would be more likely that Alex would spend her time stewing over what Nikita did. Nikita would have done better by kidnapping Alex and trying to get through to her.

• I was surprised to see Alex do so badly against Nikita. Nikita was clearly holding back while Alex didn’t appear to be and yet her ass was kicked. We’ve seen them both fight, including each other, and while I do buy easily that Nikita can beat Alex I feel like Alex would prove to be more of a fight. So was it Alex’s emotions/anger getting the better of her?

• Wait, so Edward Adams was the freaking out Oversight member right? Apparently they deal harshly with whining there.

• If Nikita and Michael’s plan is to take out the members of Oversight one at a time I’m putting my money behind Alberta Watson’s character to be the last one standing.

“Hey, it’s going to be hard enough to live with me.” I did like Nikita/Michael throughout. I love that they are very supportive and loyal to each other, and that there aren’t any hints of any division between them.
