Fringe 4x04 Thoughts

I loved this episode. This season has been really good.
• What is going on with the Olivia/Nina relationship? They are much closer than in the blue universe and have apparently known each other since Olivia was a teenager at the very least. Did Nina ‘find’ Olivia after she ran away from the trials? Did Nina raise Olivia after her mother died? I want to know more! This episode had so many interesting hints at the Amber!universe but this is the one I want to know the most about. I love it.
• There were some really wonderful Olivia/Walter scenes. I loved her gently wrapping his hands and their talk in the hotel room, and then them sharing root beer floats afterward was really sweet.
• I liked the Nina/Walter friendship so it was a bit weird, if amusing, to have Walter dislike Nina so much and so vocally. Why the huge difference? Why does he loathe her so much? Could it have something to do with Olivia’s closeness to Nina?
• “Really? Claire? That doesn’t even start with an ‘A’.” – Astrid. Hee.
• So the Cortexiphan trials did happen – awesome – but Olivia has apparently never shown any powers since? How does that work? How did she get to the other universe and back? Did David Robert Jones never test her abilities with the bomb?
• “You were always the strongest. The others recognised that. You were always their favourite.” – Walter. I really want to know more about this as well. The way Cameron said ‘Olive’ and the way he looked at her seemed to support what Walter said.
• Olivia told Cameron she hadn’t met any of the other Cortexiphan kids: was she lying to him or did those encounters never happen in the amber universe? If they never happened then how did Olivia end up in the red universe in this version of events? And does that mean Nick Lane and the others are still alive? I liked Nick so it would be great to see him again.
• I am really not sure how Peter managed to come back, and he appears to be the same Peter we last saw, but it’s very interesting that he remembers and no one else does. I love that twist.
So if blue Peter is now in the amber universe – are we keeping the amber universe? Will things eventually switch back to the blue universe? I am so torn about whether I want to keep the amber!universe or have the blue!universe back. There are things I really love about the amber!universe but there were also things I loved about the blue!universe.
Whichever way it goes I am really enjoying trying to figure out the how and why of all the, apparently many, ways the amber!universe is subtly, and not subtly, different from the original blue!universe.
