NCIS 9x05 Thoughts

I really enjoyed this.
• 9x04 and 9x05 were both really hitting ‘Gibbs as substitute dad’ hard. “You’re never alone when you have kids.” Not very subtle. The show has had this subtext for a long time (season 3?) but I don’t love it being made such clear text. I adore ‘team NCIS as a family’ but I am much less pleased with ‘Gibbs as their father’.
• I loved seeing Borin again. She’s one of my favourite reoccurring characters. She works with the team so well. She just – fits. I wish she was on the show more than once a season.
• I loved Tony’s shamelessness about his attempt to set up Borin and Gibbs. When Borin catches him doesn’t even blink. Though I have to say – Bibbs? No. I also really liked that Borin ended up getting involved in the ‘set Gibbs up’ plan.
• I thought the Ziva/Mariam scene were really well done.
• For an episode that dealt with Tony pushing to find Gibbs a girlfriend the scene when they were looking at the body had a lot of Tony/Gibbs subtext:
“Well, head slaps aren’t very romantic Tony.” – Ziva
“Well they can be. In the right context.” – Tony
Uh huh. Right. And the person who Gibbs gives the most head slaps too is...
“At least let him grill you a steak in his fireplace while watching black and white television. It’s more charming than you’d think.” – Tony. Well, Tony would know since he’s experienced it.
Also:
“I do have a list of good girlfriends.” – Borin
“They can’t be just good.” – Tony
“Don’t worry they can be bad.” – Borin
Tony won’t accept just a ‘good’ woman – Gibbs has to have someone perfect. Also I loved Borin’s comeback.
