The Philadelphia Story
Dec. 21st, 2018 10:26 pmI enjoyed it.
+ I enjoyed the Tracy/Dexter romance. I loved how obviously still in love with Tracy Dexter was and that he clearly loved her for who she was and respected her for that.
+ Liz was great. One of my favourite lines was her response to Dexter asking if she could use a typewriter – “No thanks, I have one at home”, LOL.
+ I loved how well Liz took the Mike/Tracy drunken night and how kind she was to Tracy about it.
+ Tracy’s father blaming her for his cheating was so aggravatingly unfair and self-serving. It made me so angry. I hate how his jabs at Tracy were framed as harsh but also true, and how that was used to occlude how terrible he was.
Margaret’s passiveness and forgiveness towards him also annoyed me a lot. I found the way she just stood there and never tried to really defend her daughter (except once half-heartedly) or ever take Seth to task so frustrating. It left me so mad that he was accepted back into the family so easily. His and Tracy’s moment before the wedding therefore left me really cold.
+ I liked that Tracy broke off from George because she realised that they weren’t a good match and that she couldn’t be with someone who automatically distrusted her rather than any other reason.
+ I loved when Mike asks Tracy to marry him and both Dexter and Liz have a moment of ‘oh fuck this could blow up in our faces’. It kind of makes me want to see that version as well.
+ I really liked that Mike didn’t take advantage of a drunk Tracy. He very easily could have taken it further than a kiss but didn’t.
