Deep Roots by Ryuthanna Emrys
Jan. 9th, 2019 09:15 pmI really enjoyed it.
+ To my surprise! I was reluctant to start reading because I was expecting something like the first book which never really drew me in. But with this book I was engaged with the story and characters fairly quickly. I liked much more than the first book.
+ I really like we got those short flashback pov’s from other characters. I like Aphra but seeing some things from other’s POV made the book work better, imo. I hope that continues in the next book.
+ I love the deeper delve into this universe with the introduction of The Outer Ones (also ghouls).
+ I love Aphra as a Zzzzz’v’ck, someone who connects people. I continue to like how diverse tese books are and how they made Aphra drawing diverse people to her a point in canon.
+ I love that Audrey => Aphra was basically made explicit.
+ I liked where the ending left Innsmouth.
+ The most intriguing of the new characters was Shelean and I was hoping she’d leave Freddie and attach herself more firmly to Aphra’s group. I want to know more about her.
+ I liked Aphra becoming allies with Nnnnnn-ft-vvv and Glabi.
+ I liked Aphra's realisation that she’d once again treated people she didn’t like as problems to solve rather than people and how that blew up in her face.
+ I thought the fallout between her and Mary’s group was well done. I was more on Aphra’s side but I understood Mary and the other’s anger.
