The Devil Wears Prada Review
Mar. 12th, 2007 08:49 pmI was surprised to find that I really, really liked it. It was an enjoyable movie with likeable characters and several very interesting relationships.
- My favourite two relationships were the Andy/Miranda and Andy/Emily ones. The latter of which I was more surprised about in that if I’d known about the character I would have thought she’d have been far more of a background then she was. She was this full-fledged character and I loved the ever changing relationship between her and Andy. As for her two on screen romantic relationships - I like how they were both dealt with. I really liked that at the end Andy and Nate didn’t get back together. That felt far more realistic.
- I remember catching a bit of a review when it first came out and the impression I got was that Andy got involved in this high powered, fast paced fashion world and ended up becoming this self-absorbed bitch who was cruel/rude to her friends. It made me want to see the movie less because it seemed like it was going to be this moral tale about how that rich life is bad and makes people bad etc. And that’s just not something I’m interested in. So I was happy how it did play out and that Andy was relatable and the change she went through wasn’t contrived or ‘bad’ and that the characters did all have their good points. There was no moment that I thought Andy was a 'bitch' and honestly I thought her friends were the ones who overreacted to Andy's change.
- I loved the Miranda/Andy relationship and the way it evolved into them honestly liking and respecting each other. And I’m pretty sure they both honestly do. On Miranda’s part she opened up to Andy, her letter to Andy’s potential boss and her hidden smile at the end. For Andy’s part there’s her defending Miranda, trying to warn her, her smile/wave at the end and her amusement when Miranda ignored her. She just seemed so affectionate right at that moment - like she was smile inside, all ’yeah, she hasn’t changed (thank god)’. I loved that. I also loved that by the Paris trip there was a closeness and trust there on Miranda’s part to open up to Andy. I loved how she calls Andy, Andrea (An-dray-a) instead of Andrea (An-dre-a).
- Strangely, perhaps, the relationship I most want to read about and see is the Andy/Emily one though. I love their relationship so much. Plus by the end of the movie Andy’s with neither of her guys and there’s been no hint about Emily’s sexuality. I could see them working very easily.
- I guess it’s not surprising in a movie about the fashion would but everyone looked fabulous. Andrea especially, post-makeover.
- I didn't really like Nate or Nate/Andy.
- I did like Christian and Christian/Andy.
- It must have been pretty awkward for Andy and Nate after they broke up considering that they lived together. I’m sure that she wasn’t leaving that night for Paris. And considering her fight with Lily, what did she do? I got the sense from the end of the movie that she wasn’t still living with Nate which indicates to me that she moved out before going to Paris. How did she find a place so fast?
