Minako vs. Rei – Where’s The Battle?
I loved this episode! We’ve had a couple of episodes that have had so little senshi interaction and I haven’t liked it. This episode was just so adorable and sweet and made me happy.
Awards
Hottie Of the Week: This was really close but – Rei. Rei looked fabulous in the photo shoot and good throughout the episode. She looked hot walking down the hallway. (Minako came in second – she looked great during her song and at the end.)
Best Shibby Moment: Mamoru’s grin/snort of laughter and head turn away when he heard that Motoki calls Nephrite ‘Nephikichi’ (because his name’s hard and thus it is the perfect nickname) was adorable and funny.
Funniest Moment: The Mamoru grin was the moment that made me giggle out loud so it probably wins this spot but there were a few more moments that could also go here like Ami bum-bumping Luna off the platform, for example.
Cutest Moment: … I don’t know how to pick one moment! This whole episode was an endeavor in cuteness. The whole game show was full of cute moments. Basically anytime any of the senshi interacted! See below ‘senshi interaction’, pick one.
Saddest Moment: Minako standing alone at the end, in silence, crying (possibly for the first time since learning she’s dying) and holding herself. It was the silence that really made that scene so powerful. This was very close though because the Minako/Artemis opening scene was also very sad. I just find her inability, or unwillingness, to understand why it’s important for her to be happy in this life so heartbreaking. Her ‘why’ to Artemis telling her that he ‘wanted her to have more time as Aino Minako’ was just painful and when she told him “There is no other me than Sailor Venus.” I wanted to hug her. Oh, Mina-chan.
WTF of the Week: …… I don’t think there was one! Nothing that sticks out anyway!
Coolest Moment: I really just love the five of them finally together. ♥ Other than that there was nothing that stuck out and made me go ‘cool’. I suppose Rei’s photo shoot was pretty cool. She looked different but very good.
Best Senshi Moment: ...Rei. I like to think it was her idea for both the resurrection of Mars Reiko (who Minako created) and for the game show competition and I love it. I loved her little smiles at Minako throughout the girls’ competitions.
Best Senshi Interaction:
The final battle competition was wonderful. I loved how it ended up involving all five of them, devolved into an all out battle and ended with the all of them collapsing onto the ground in fits of laughter. I’ve been waiting for so long for Minako to be a part of the group and have been despairing that we would never get it. This was so small but I loved it. Really though it’s hard to choose just one moment because this episode was full of wonderful little moments:
- I loved Ami’s smile when she saw the equations and Usagi’s returning grin when she revealed the calculator.
- I loved Usagi and Makoto being all serious as they got into position for their sumo match and then as soon as they started it was all smiles and laughter. Their fight was adorable.
- I loved Usagi, Ami and Makoto’s grins at each other when the manager offers to let them into the balloon sword fight.
- I loved Rei and Minako’s smiles at each other just before they team up to attack the other girls.
- Usagi, Makoto, Ami and Luna walking together and laughing and smiling was wonderful. It could have only been better if Luna had been replaced by Rei and Minako. Oh, I hope we get that moment at least once this series.
Other
• “We usually don’t call her ‘princess’, nor do we treat her as one.” – Rei. I loved this moment.
• I loved Minako getting into the game. Her little first pump when Luna beat Makoto, her clenched fists and desperate desire to cheer during the Usagi/Makoto sumo face off.
• I really liked Minako’s song. I liked that the lyrics matched her so well. I liked how happy she seemed. I liked that Rei stayed behind though I wish she’d been in the sound room with the manager, watching.
• This episode made me really like Saitou. That he would do all this for Minako, and it was so obvious that he cared about her as Minako not as an idol, just really endeared him to me. He’s the closest we’ve seen her have to family and it was really nice to see his care for her. I loved his expression as he watched over her and the girls laughing and having fun.
