Vampire Host Thoughts

iariaIt was an okay series though not something I'd be interested in watching much more of. Also I was not expecting it to end in such an angst-fest.
- The best thing about the show was the Rion/Suou relationship. I liked her constantly kicking him and how over the series he starts blocking her and purposefully trying to get her to kick him. I loved the faces they made at each other. I loved him being all dramatic and Rion rolling her eyes at him and telling him to stop trying to look cool. There were a lot of cute and amusing moments with them. I loved their fight scene in episode 9 which was hilarious (and of course Rion won).
I liked watching them slowly grow to care for each other, especially Suou, and I was expecting the show to end with the together especially when Rion was turned by Reira. Instead we get Suou killing Reira (as she wanted all along) before disappearing.
- I actually didn’t find the end very clear – Suou bit Rion and I thought it meant that he turned her but then there was no indication that she was a vampire at the end. Also what happened to her leg – did she lose it or was it reattached?
- It was so clear that he loved her and she cared for him – why did he leave? What an unexpectedly depressing end to the series!
- I liked Reira and wish that we’d gotten to see more of her.
- Rion and Suou could at times be really eye-rollingly cheesy and ridiculous.
- Suou’s ‘transformation’ was really silly. I did love how they had fun with it. One time when he was in the middle of his long transformation he stopped because ‘he should hurry up’. Another time Rion interrupts him during a transformation and then when he’s done kicks him and tells him to ‘stop striking a pose and hurry’. It amused me.
- I had some issues with the various bad guys of the series, which breaks down like so:
Bad guy for eps 1/2 is a woman – a lesbian who kidnaps teenagers and sucks their blood – victims: girls – goes insane when she learns about Suou.
Bad guy for eps 3/4 is a woman – a dominatrix who commands her submissive to kill and is ashamed of who she is – victims: girl/guy – goes insane when she leans about Suou, kills her submissive.
Bad guy for eps 5/6 is a woman – a doctor who hates men and tries to make her patients fear them, killing them when it doesn’t work – victims: girls – goes insane, caused by Suou and kills herself.
Bad guy for eps 7/8 is a man – a travelling host calling himself the Grim Reaper who ‘loves’ woman then forces them to commit suicide – victims: girls – kills himself after a confrontation with Suou.
Bad guy for eps 9/10/11 is a woman – Reira, a female vampire Suou made and loved, who wants revenge and for him to kill her – victims: girls – has Suou kill her.
It bothered me.
