Pretty Little Liars 1x04 & 1x05 Reviews

iaria1x04 ‘Can You Hear Me Now?’
• I definitely want more of the girls together and in pairs. I did like that Spencer had Hanna picking her up, and Hanna agreed despite her bad night. And I loved that she immediately told Spencer about the song dedication instead of keeping secrets. I loved that an SOS text was enough to get all the girls to immediately drop everything and run. It seems like to me that Aria/Emily and Spencer/Hanna are closer among the friends.
• I can’t believe that Emily threw out the pictures of her and Maya. That is just so not something I would ever do. I mean it was not only her first kiss with Maya, who she likes, but also with a girl. Why not hide it in her room or something? I liked their final talk of the episode. It was sweet. I liked their first scene and the red scarf giving.
• I really liked the Toby/Emily talk especially him subtly encouraging her not to hide her being a lesbian (or at least that’s what I got from his talk about her swimming). Despite the aura of creepy that the show is still pushing I continue to like him.
• I am still not sold on Ezra/Aria. I couldn’t even watch the classroom scene. God, he is so bad at this. I did like Aria yelling at him later and them actually talking but I’m just not liking them as a pairing.
• I am warming up more to Spencer/Wren on the other hand though it is still going way too fast. I liked their talk over coffee. I also liked Spencer’s “I’ve done some pretty stupid things lately; I’m way over my limit.” So true.
• Despite the potential of getting caught if she tells her teacher she doesn’t want to submit the essay Spencer should still definitely do it because that is nothing to what humiliation or black marks there will be in her future if she either places or wins the competition and she should know this.
• I was kind of annoyed at Hanna that she wasn’t more supportive of Spencer when she told her about it. I do feel really sorry about her surprise dinner with her dad’s new family. What an ass to just spring them on her like that.
• I loved the end with ‘A’ once again taking charge and freaking the girls out and I can’t wait to see what ‘A’ does next.
1x05 ‘Reality Bites Me’
• Aria wondering to her friends if her dad is going to leave annoyed me. I realise that they were trying to tie it back to Hanna’s situation but if Aria should be worried about anything it should be about her mother leaving his cheating and lying ass.
• I really liked Hardy calling Ezra on dating Aria. Of course Ezra doesn’t take his really sound warning because he’s kind of an idiot as evidenced by him kissing his high school student girlfriend in the hallway of his apartment. Sigh. So their break-up later when he read the text from ‘A’ was kind of a relief. It’s definitely not over, and I’m wondering if ‘A’ doesn’t have some photographic evidence of them (there was certainly many opportunities), but it’s nice to see him doing the smart thing if only for a moment.
• “Em, if you have somebody in your life who cares about you then I’m happy for you, no matter who they are.” I liked the Hanna/Emily scene and Hanna trying both to be completely supportive while also letting Emily keep her privacy. It was just such a great friend moment.
• I have been dreading everyone learning about Spencer stealing the essay so I was pretty pleased with how her dad found out. Spencer pointing her cheating out at the same time as calling out his own bad behaviour worked for me. It was pretty smart because she did it in such a way that prevented him from reprimanding her for it. Now if only she can skip the humiliation of everyone else finding out.
• I like that Emily and Toby are becoming friends but I find myself afraid that Toby is looking at her as more than a friend and that Emily is going to try hiding her gayness by dating him and in the process hurting them both.
• As for Hanna I kept waiting for her to apologise to Ben about pressuring him into sex, even though she knew he didn’t want to, and yet again it didn’t happen.
• I do really like Hanna’s relationship with her mother. Actually the mother/daughter relationships are pretty good on this show because I like Aria/Ella’s interactions and Emily with her mom as well.
