Another great episode.
+ "You're his secret keeper. I'm asking you to be mine too." Dembe is Liz's secret keeper now too, and I love it. At the same time poor Dembe! I feel like he should lock these two idiots in a room until they work through their problems for his own mental health.
Some part of this choice is definitely empathy for Liz because it's Red's secrets that have hurt Liz so much, caused such mental anguish and are what lead her to this place. He's said since the beginning that Red should tell her the truth and has pushed for it. I think he also genuinely likes her. But while all that clearly played a role in why he decided to keep Liz's secret the main reason was entirely about protecting Red.
He knew that this would devastate Red and as Red has said multiple times in many different way: Dembe always saves/protects Red. It's interesting that when Dembe first brings it up to Red he doesn't actually lie. Everything he says to Red is the absolute truth and thus he uses Red's own method of selective truth telling to let Red come to the wrong conclusion. I loved that.
Except, after Red reacts in such relief, Dembe does lie to him. He agrees - "No". No , Liz didn't betray him. No, he won't be destroyed by it. Dembe, maybe for the first time, choose to lie to Red. To protect him. To save him.
I both can't wait to for when the truth comes out and also kind of never want to see the truth come out.
+ "Ohh. I was so sure. I was... The thought that she betrayed me. Again. But she didn't" His smile. His shakey relief. Poor Red.
+ Poor Dembe looked so anxious at the beginning. I do like the little pieces we've been getting of his relationship with Liz, like him defending Liz at the beginning and his "I'm very relieved. More so knowing that you are as well." I feel like that definitely played into his decision to keep her secret. If she hadn't be relieved, hadn't cared that Red could die, than his choice probably would have gone a different way.
+ Red got so emotional telling the story of Katerina and Reddington that you could be forgiven for thinking he was talking about himself. It was interesting to hear from his prospective. His "but certainly should have expected" re: Reddington being betrayed by Katerina particularly so. I am so curious about what role Red played in all this drama back then. When talking to Liz about being betrayed it also came off very personal. It makes me wonder if Katerina betrayed him as well at some point.
+ "I think this guy could be." I mean he's right that Red might not be guilty of treason, that it was the real Raymond... but that's not the main reason Ressler spent so long trying to hunt him down. Regardless of that original treason charge I'm not sure why Ressler would suddenly be more forgiving towards Red with this new information. Red is the Concierge of Crime! Also Ressler is being really terrible at secret keeping.
+ "I said you were the most honest person I know. Bar's pretty low." LOL. That said he's still not even though she's not wrong about the low bar. No wonder she has trust issues. Still it has to be Aram right?
+ So Ressler/Liz, huh. I thought this possibility was shot down long ago but between Liz seemingly willing to let Red know she knows (and thus perhaps losing the chance to learn the truth) to prevent Ressler from committing perjury, the long shoulder touch and "...if something ever happened to you I would never forgive myself" I feel like they're definitely a possibility again. I enjoyed their partnership in the last episode, and their last scene in this ep but I am really not here for a Liz/Ressler romance. Sigh.
+ "...engaged in a futile game of wack-a-mole" Hee. Red definitely has a way with words.
+ So that's now two of the TaskForce who've lied under oath for Red.
+ I really love Judge Wilkins. She's absolutely fair, making the best choices in her opinion and even when I disagree with them I mostly understand why she makes them. I love how she slaps down Red's nonsense but is also patient and secretly seems to really enjoy him.
+ Liz losing control of the situation in the bathroom, getting choked and needed to be saved made me sigh.
