Hyakko Series Thoughts

I really enjoyed this series. It’s too bad there aren’t more episodes. (But then it was the fact that the series was so short that made me decide to try it in the first place.) I would recommend this series.
It was very sweet and, oh so, femslashy. I mean really, really slashy. I love it. I love how the show is pretty much all about the many girls and their relationships with each other. I was surprised that boys were pretty much a non-existent topic among the girls.
• There were so many subtexty pairings... in fact you can pretty much pair Torako with anyone in the cast and there will be subtext for it in the series.
My favourite pairings include: Torako/Tatsuki, Tatsuki/Ayu, Torako/Suzu (they shared their first kiss!), Torako/Ushio, and Torako/Toma but there are so many other possibilities. Also I have to admit I also kind of ship Torako/ Kyōichirō Amagasa, who is their teacher, and with whom Torako has this really interesting relationship that definitely goes beyond student/teacher, and with whom she can definitely hold her own.
• Episode four was the first I loved. The latter half of the episode was set during the art class and was excellent. It was very amusing. It’s one of my favourite parts of the series.
• Episode 8, specifically the latter half of the episode, was another favourite. Everyone gets a makeover (most of them at the hands of Torako) and I loved it.
• Episode six ended much earlier than it should have so I went past the credits and then there was this six minute interlude were all the characters played out this fantasy Evangelion type trailer that was pretty interesting (I’d watch it) which is indicated to be a trailer for upcoming episodes and then there was this little note: “The main show may be very different from the preview. We appreciate your understanding.” Heh. That just really amuses me. I don’t know why they did this but the trailer was really neat.
• Episode 11 was fun. I just wish the dodge ball part was longer.
