Hottie Of the Week: Rei. She was looking really pretty throughout.
Best Shibby Moment: “Don’t worry. My feelings can’t be separated from you. My heart will always be with you.” … and then he kisses her and then the two of them frolic in the surf. ♥
Funniest Moment: Sailor Moon slapping the youma during the opening fight. Hee.
Cutest Moment: Mamoru and Usagi frolicking in the surf together was adorable.
Saddest Moment: It was tied for me between Rei’s “I’ve had enough of this ‘past life’ stuff.” (oh, Rei) and Minako’s expression when Rei ‘turned’ on her at the end (oh, Minako). I wanted to hug them both.
WTF of the Week:
Sailor Moon’s fight with the youma on the beach really annoyed me. She’s hit as soon as she transforms and it hurts her so much it makes her unable to get up while Mamoru is able to fight. Wait, what? And then she’s held captive and can’t get away until Endymion saves her. And she waits until Endymion tells her to attack to do so. It irritated me so much. I mean she was pummeling away at the water youma in the beginning and for her to go from that to helpless is ridiculous. This could really have been solved if only she’d been hit by the youma instead of both of them almost being hit.
Coolest Moment: Sailor Moon grabbing Endymion’s sword, running at the youma (as it attacks) and stabbing it through the stomach. What led up to that moment was aggravating but the moment itself was very cool especially since it was Sailor Moon and not Princess Sailor Moon doing it.
Runners-up: Jupiter and Mars use of their attacks to take out several of the youma. I especially loved Jupiter sending her lighting through the ground. (I wish that we’d seen Mercury using her powers similarly.)
Best Senshi Moment: Mercury: “Using water to challenge me, that shows real guts.” I really liked this because we don’t often see Mercury being so cocky and I rather love it. Also I was thinking pretty much the same thing.
Best Senshi Interaction: Rei/Minako. I loved Mars’s worry for Venus. I loved the confrontation at the end. I loved the scene where Venus started to collapse and Mars runs and catches her. ♥
- Runner-up is this exchange between Rei and Makoto:
“Protecting the princess is our mission.”
“Makoto. We don’t protect her because she’s the princess. It has nothing to do with ‘a mission’.”
Aw. Rei loves Usagi for Usagi, and I love her explicitly stating that they protect Usagi because she’s Usagi not because she’s their princess. (Not to say that Makoto doesn't love Usagi for herself because I believe she does.)
• Also, not specific to this episode, but I really found myself wondering this episode what exactly Serenity is doing. She keeps showing up – to sit around playing her harp and using the power of the crystal (even knowing that it’s strengthening Metaria) – and I just really don’t understand why she’s doing it. What is it accomplishing? Is she just letting her sadness out? Is she calling to/for Endymion? Does she not realize that she’s strengthening Metaria?
As a character choice, as well, this does not work for me. From everything we’ve seen of Serenity I have a hard time buying that her reaction to Endymion being kidnapped and kept from her would be to sit sadly and play her harp instead of, say, taking her sword and storming the Dark Kingdom, bringing chaos and destruction with her. Serenity is not an ‘angst about a problem’ type princess, she’s an ‘attack with full strength and no holding back’ type. Why isn’t she trying to get Endymion back? It makes no sense!
• Beryl’s whole plan with regards to Endymion has me shaking my head. She puts that stone in him instead of brainwashing and then tells him if he returns after one day she’ll remove it – thus invalidating any control over him. What?
• Zoisite’s expression at the end as he watched Mamoru and Usagi... he seemed disappointed to me but I couldn’t really tell what else. I couldn’t tell if he was considering turning on Endymion.
