Hottie Of the Week: Minako! She was looking really great.
Best Shibby Moment:
“The past will not disappear by being ignored. We… bear the burden of our past life.” – Mamoru
“You’re just trapped in the past like the others.” – Rei
I loved his expression when he said that. I agree with both of them actually though more with Mamoru. Sticking your head in the sand does not help anything. You shouldn’t let it control your life like Minako and Kunzite did but neither can you ignore it. Especially when it sends youma to attack random people and you, or it might cause you to end the world. This isn’t something that can be ignored. At the same time Rei is right that they are trapped by their past life.
Funniest Moment: Artemis babysitting the kids – him trying to make eggs (and doing damn well for a stuffed cat) made me smile.
Cutest Moment: Luna, in cat form, lying in the doll bed with the towel on her head. She was hurt and all but I found it very cute.
Saddest Moment: The Luna/Usagi scene where Usagi finally voices the thought I knew she was having ‘are you guys avoiding me?’ and then when Luna tells her to smile in response she gets this big grin on her face but she just can’t keep it up. It was so like her normal happy grins but you could see the difference – it looked so false and painful. Usagi smiling through her pain is often sad but also admirable. Usagi smiling through her pain because of others pushing it on her, because it’s what others what her to do, is sad and painful. Oh, Usagi.
WTF of the Week:
There are two main ones that had me going ‘wtf’ for most of the episode.
a) Makoto surviving because ‘the youma hit Jupiter clear from the blast’ – um, what? Jupiter was that blast! That makes no sense!
b) What the hell happened directly after the blast that would end with Minako taking Makoto to her hotel to recover, Ami disappearing for half the episode and Luna being left behind injured. None of it makes any sense! Why the hell would they abandon Luna? That more than anything bugs me. My fanon for what happened is that Minako took an injured Jupiter and sent Ami off to find/get Mars (who they couldn’t get on the communicator) and Artemis. Though it doesn’t explain how Ami was apparently fine even while both Jupiter and Luna appeared seriously hurt. Sigh.
also:
- Minako not having transformed into Venus before arriving at the fight. They always do it and I should just accept it but I can’t. It will never not bug the crap out of me. But especially so here when Minako didn’t actually know for sure that she could transform.
- In a similar vein Rei not transforming when confronted by Mio or after finding herself in the Dark Kingdom, automatically, makes no freaking sense and in fact is very stupid. Sigh.
Coolest Moment: The four inner senshi, in civilian form, walking side by side down the street, as friends and as they did so often in the other canons. I’ve been waiting so long for this and it made me very happy. The only thing missing was Usagi and damn it she should have been there! In fact I really was expecting her to run up and meet them especially when Ami paused for a moment and looked back. Oh, that would have made me so happy. I had better get that moment.
Best Senshi Moment: There are actually a lot of moments that I loved but...
- Sailor Moon turning into Princess Sailor Moon, apparently on purpose, and managing to keep control enough to use the harp to heal everyone who was ill/affected by the youma.
and
- Minako, when faced with Makoto saying the exact things that she always says and clings to so tightly, smiling uncontrollably: “I understand how Mars feels. It is indeed a bit vexing.” Her realising and accepting how she was wrong really worked for me.
Best Senshi Interaction: Makoto/Minako. I really loved their talk.
Close runner-up: Minako/Rei’s exchange at the end where Minako asserts her decision to have the surgery had nothing to do with Rei but rather was because she wants to be Minako, Rei’s smile and calling her a liar. It was very sweet.
Other
• “Even if I die… I’ll just be reborn. Like how we have past lives… there’ll be a next time. So I don’t have a problem with disappearing now because Jupiter won’t disappear.” – Makoto. Huh. I never expected any of the senshi to think like that. She’s right of course that they will be reborn again (and again) but for her to be so accepting of that and to put it in such a way was very interesting to me.
• “I love Aino Minako. … Live. I want you to live.” Oh, Artemis.
• I liked the reason Luna gave Usagi for why they were keeping her out of the loop. I thought it was about trying to prevent her from having more stuff to be sad about and that bugged me even as I understand it. That is probably still the reason they kept her from learning the truth about Minako but them deciding to keep her out of battle being because they wanted to help her control the Princess and her use of the Silver Crystal makes a lot of sense (and in both they are trying to protect her). Still they could have said something. I did like her smile after learning the truth.
• Sailor Venus’s new power being ‘Rolling Heart Vibration’ instead of a power from the manga/anime was weird. Poor Venus, though. When all the others upgraded and got a new power they got to single-handedly kill the youma they faced.
• “You’re not alone, are you?” – Minako. Um, no. And do you want to know why she is not alone? Because she has the other Senshi! Yes their human family and friends are very important for all of them but even if all those ties were gone the girls would all still have each other (and the cats).
• Makoto being well enough to fight felt off. Her, and everyone else, being completely healed at the end could be attributed to Princess Sailor Moon.
• Beryl actually wanting to stop Metaria was an interesting diversion from the other canons. I wonder if we could end up with the Sailor Senshi working with Beryl to defeat Metaria? That could be very interesting. Alternately I could also really see Beryl being possessed by Metaria and a confrontation proceeding similar to the manga/anime one.
