Mamoru is Captured by Metaria!

Best Shibby Moment: “Fool! Cry! When I’m with you, you don’t have to hold it back.” Aw. I love that he went to her. I loved him holding her and her breaking down in his arms.

Funniest Moment: There wasn’t really much funny in this episode. Shingo getting Mio’s autograph on his stomach amuses me. Now did he ask or did she just do it?

Saddest Moment: Hmm… I think it was actually Makoto, Ami and Rei’s reactions when Moon ran Endymion through with the sword. They were so sad and horrified for her and had tried so hard to protect her.

WTF of the Week:

1) Where the hell was Serenity and Princess Sailor Moon? Even if all the drama about Endymion hadn’t drawn her out when Usagi was attacked she should have appeared. I kept waiting for her but it never happened and I can’t think of any reason why she wouldn’t have taken over. On a meta level I can see TPTB wanting Usagi as Moon to be the one to stab Endymion but they could have had Princess Sailor Moon show up, refuse to kill Endymion and for Usagi to wrestle control away from her and do it. Actually I would have loved that. That would have been awesome.

2) Sailor Moon running at Metaria-Endymion with her sword held in front of her, basically about to do exactly what she’s does, and him just standing there and letting her do it made me go WTH? It was just so unbelievable. There are two ways they could have made it work – Moon and Endymion sword fighting ending with Moon stabbing him (less believable because he’s a trained swordfighter and Moon isn’t) or they could have shown that Endymion/Mamoru was fighting Metaria and he won out against her long enough to allow Moon to stab him. That would have been perfect, and believable but that’s not what I saw.

Coolest Moment: Nothing that made me go ‘cool’ but… I loved Mars, Mercury and Jupiter agreeing to fight to fulfill their past mission and finally find closure for their past – and then the three of them transporting themselves to the Dark Kingdom. I love the team transporting in previous canons and I wasn’t expecting to get it here at all so it was a really nice surprise and made me go ‘yay’. But how did they know how to do it? Instinctive or did they remember?

Best Senshi Moment: … Sailor Moon stabbing Metaria-Endymion. Oh, Usagi. She had to have been suppressing Serenity hard too.

Best Senshi Interaction: I loved Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter fighting in place of Moon and doing their best to make sure that Moon wouldn’t have to fight the possessed Mamoru. None of them gave up despite their injuries – to the extent that all three of them gained a new attack and used it against him – and they only stopped fighting when they were so injured that they de-transformed involuntarily and couldn’t move.

Other

• I was wondering where Artemis was going to be living without Minako and it appears it’s going to be with Usagi. I thought that was a likely option since she is the princess and Luna lives with her but I was actually leaning more towards, and liking more, that he would move in with Rei. Rei – who loved Minako too, who was Venus’s chosen successor as leader of the senshi, and we’ve already seen him at the Temple a lot recently. It makes sense to me.

• Considering the way that the show killed off Minako in the last episode then Kunzite and Mio in this one, I was really wondering if Metaria-Endymion would actually kill the Inner Senshi. They died at the end of the first Arc in both manga and anime so I keep expecting it. It was actually more of a surprise that they survived. I was actually hoping that they would die because that would mean we’d get Usagi/Serenity rebooting their reality which in turn would mean Minako would be back.

• I was really shocked when Metaria-Endymion killed Mio. I’ve actually really be enjoying her the last couple episodes. Does the fact that her body basically dissolved into a pile of black petals mean that she didn’t actually have a human life and was just a construct of Beryl’s?

• It’s kind of a letdown as far as Beryl goes, and this may change in the final episode, but she nether fights the senshi/Serenity nor does she help them but instead she’s just kind of there.

• Whose sword did Moon pick up at the end? It didn’t look like Endymion or Kunzite’s sword.

• Why was Usagi randomly wearing a kimono at the beginning? I think there was supposed to be a small time jump but I’m not sure. I suppose it could be a cultural thing – would that be something she’d wear to a funeral or wake for instance?

• Poor Jadeite. He looked so horrified that he killed Kunzite.

• I loved that Mamoru wasn’t just so arrogant to believe that he could contain Metaria as it first appeared but rather that he was planning from the beginning to absorb her then die with her in him and thus kill her too. I don’t know how that works (it shouldn’t) but whatever. I’m just really glad that he had a plan. I’m guessing he really was planning to fight Kunzite and either let Kunzite kill him or he thought Kunzite was the better sword-fighter and assumed he’d win.

It makes complete sense to me that Kunzite would forgive Endymion and allow himself to be loyal and love Endymion once Endymion proved that he was putting the Earth first, not just saying it. “Our Master is right before my eyes. He’s there.” Oh, Kunzite. I love that he died defending Endymion. Zoisite will be so pleased the next time they meet. And at least he got to die in Endymion’s arms and looking in his eyes which is more than Zoisite got. On the other hand Endymion just let Kunzite’s stone fall instead of catching it like Sailor Moon did Zoisite. Does the fact that the kunzite didn’t break in two and disappear mean that Kunzite isn’t truly dead like Zoisite (despite seeing Shin disappear)?
