Haven 2x13 Review

This was delightful. A very enjoyable episode.
Things I Liked:
• The whole Christmas in July + people slowly disappearing and no one realising the wrongness of either, except Audrey, was nicely creepy.
• I liked that little moment with Joe the cafe owner and him fawning over Audrey as the person who protects all of ‘them’ (the Troubled).
• The fact that Nathan called Duke to tell him about how Audrey was ‘struggling with the holidays’ and Duke came up with the santa suit idea to cheer her up and Nathan went along with it. I love that Nathan and Duke talk about her together and them working together to make her feel better.
• The final Audrey/Vince scene was well done. Vince being alone, and knowing something was so wrong but not understanding what, was really sad. The saddest moment of the episode. I just wanted Audrey to give him a hug.
• Audrey’s face in the sky of the snow globe Haven worked for me. She was kind of hovering there like a guardian angel (or a deity I suppose) and that is exactly what she is to Haven/the Troubled. She watches over them. Everyone ends up forgetting the day but I wonder if subconsciously they remember it and Audrey saving them?
• The phone call after everything was made right. Audrey’s little smile and soft “hey, where are you” all pointed to it being Nathan on the phone and when it was revealed to be Duke I may have squee’d. That moment made me so happy.
• “I’m having one of those Haven moments.” - Duke LOL. That just amused me.
• “Why are there so many cops in my place?” – Duke. Hee. His expression was great but I also loved how when he walked in all the cops waved hello to him. Between that and the early prank at the station and helping Audrey he is like the worst criminal ever.
• The mistletoe moment! Unexpected but it made me grin and snicker. I like to think, considering the placement of it to the tree with only the boys’ gift underneath, that Audrey put it there specifically to get them under it. I think I know Audrey’s Christmas wish!
• I loved Audrey getting the guys the Christmas gift that they’d always wanted. It probably took some effort to get and was so sweet.
• The three of them clinking glasses – Audrey/Nathan, Audrey/Duke and then Duke/Nathan. ♥
• I loved how the show did a Christmas episode while filming it in the summer. A Troubled person making everyone think Christmas falls in July – well done, show.
Things I Didn't Like:
• Nathan and Duke, but especially Nathan, not believing Audrey when she explained that something was wrong. Early season one, fine, I’d go with it but presumably this was set in season two? So it just doesn’t work for me. It’s Haven and they know she’s immune to the Troubles and after everything they've been through together it makes no sense for them to brush it off. Especially now long Nathan stubbornly refused to believe her.
• Nathan telling Audrey – “but you put ‘em up with your family...” - and only then realising that it’s because she doesn’t have family that she dislikes Christmas. Really? That felt off.
• Audrey’s description of Duke to Nathan was a little... weird. “You know, our friend, he's got a moustache, a goatee, wears a lot of jewellery, makes all these jokes, only looks out for himself?” The last point especially – that’s what Duke tries to portray/make others think but it’s not actually what he’s like and Audrey should know that.
• Audrey not explaining what happened to the others at the end bothered me. I’m choosing to believe after everyone leaves except the guys she’ll tell them everything. It also probably would have been a good idea to tell Vince and Dave the truth as well considering their role as Haven’s de facto Toubled historians.
• The final Audrey/Hadley scene left me mostly meh.
