Bad Reputation
This was actually a pretty enjoyable episode except for the fact that is full of embarrassment squick hitting scenes (laughing at Sue, Emma confronts Will, library scene, Rachel post-video).
• The episode started off right by putting me in a good mood when the previews not only acknowledged Rachel/Puck but called them a ‘power couple’. They’re still my favourite/main pairing for the show. I loved their scene in Rachel’s bedroom. Everything about that scene made me happy starting from Puck hanging out in Rachel’s room again, through the students having called them ‘Puckleberry’, the almost making out and that in the end while he started to leave it took like no effort for her to get him to stay and do the project with her (basically just taking his hand and leading him back, also I love her calling him Noah still).
• By the end of this episode I found myself actually liking Rachel/Jesse. For the first time I saw some heat and sexy between the two of them when they had that ballet sequence. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of that. Of course now that I actually have some interest in Rachel/Jesse he breaks up with her. That did surprise me, though, I suppose that since he’s a part of Glee now he doesn’t actually have to be dating Rachel anymore (and dare I hope that the break up now means that when he does betray them Rachel won’t be thrown under the bus and blamed by the Gleekers?) I don’t buy Jesse’s line about Rachel breaking his heart for a minute but I find myself hoping that he does end up caring for her.
• On the music front I loved the Olivia Newton-John/Sue ‘Physical’ video a lot, I found Rachel’s video very cheesy but also amusing, and I also loved the final song ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, which is a song I’m rather fond of anyway and which I thought was wonderfully done. I loved all three guys singing though I wish Puck had gotten a larger role.
I also liked:
- Brittney (stuck in the music room, heh, and hanging with the original four)
- Sue as Emma’s therapist
- Puck having moved the Hot/Not list because it was on Rachel’s locker (both aw, he was protecting her, and heh, because he moved it not got rid of it)
- the Quinn/Will scene and Principle Figgins clearly realising that she did it but letting it go
- Emma refusing to allow Will to make everything magically better with flowers and an apology
- the fact that there’s a ballet club and that Rachel and Jesse are both in it
- Rachel using all three guys in her video
I didn’t like:
- Quinn’s apparent dislike of Rachel and her targeting her (putting her bottom, on her locker) because I’ve loved that it hasn’t seemed like Quinn hates her anymore and I want them to be friends really bad
- Kurt’s ‘plan’ to get to the top of the list which was sad, ridiculous and stupid, and I can’t believe none of the others realised it
Other:
- The Hot/Not list was interesting. The first time I looked at it I didn’t realise the original four weren’t on it and was left wondering what the hell was up with them being above Mike and Matt. When I realised they weren’t even on the list I was offended for them. Quinn really doesn’t seem to notice them so it makes sense though considering her moment with Mercedes in the last episode I’m surprised she wasn’t on it. Was Quinn being nice by leaving her off? Before I knew it was Quinn who made the list I was calling foul on her being number one (though interestingly only 2 points above Santana) when at most I would put her at number three. Quinn giving Santana more points than Puck (43 to his 38) was also interesting, as was Finn being all the way down at number six with only 19 points (to Brit’s 35 and Jesse’s 28, why so high for him?) Are we supposed to take from this that she’s completely over Finn now?
- During the final scene we get a point where Puck sings to Rachel and his eyes are all on her while right beside him Quinn sits staring unwaveringly at him. I just thought that was interesting.
