Back in 2011 I got Storm Front the novel and the comic from the library. I ended up not reading very far into the novel. I had a hard time getting into it, it wasn’t engaging me and I eventually gave up. Or possibly I couldn’t renew it, I can’t remember. I did however read the comic. Picking it up a decade later, even after reading the two latest books in the series and really enjoying them and having already gotten to like Harry, I again found it hard to get into the book. Not entirely sure why it doesn’t work for me. The writing itself is fine, a nice easy read. This time however I did finish it.
+ I enjoyed all of Harry’s interactions with Marcone. They were a lot more – not friendly entirely but peaceable and warily understanding – than I was expecting.
+ I loved the scene at Varsity. I loved Harry's dramatic entrance, I loved Marcone's cool demeanour the entire time, and I loved that despite having just laid out why doing nothing would work well for him Marcone still tells Harry (on 'a personal note') everything he knows.
+ I liked the scene where Harry falls unconscious in Murphy’s office and she takes care of him.
+ I liked the whole sequence with the demon and Harry calling down lightning.
+ Harry’s ‘gallant old fashionedness’ aka kind of sexist world view was indeed annoying as expected.
+ Harry not telling Murphy was such an obvious mistake and while I’m glad he eventually realised that when he was making that choice it was so deeply frustrating to read and his reasoning didn’t make sell on the choice. I wanted to shake him.
