It was okay.

I had a similar problem as I had with the first book wherein I couldn't get engaged with the story. It's so weird because I really enjoyed the final two books and zipped through them and I am just not feeling those early books at all. Do I keep trying and read the 3rd book, skip ahead to a book closer to the end of the series? IDK.

Back in 2011 I got Storm Front the novel and the comic from the library. I ended up not reading very far into the novel. I had a hard time getting into it, it wasn’t engaging me and I eventually gave up. Or possibly I couldn’t renew it, I can’t remember. I did however read the comic. Picking it up a decade later, even after reading the two latest books in the series and really enjoying them and having already gotten to like Harry, I again found it hard to get into the book. Not entirely sure why it doesn’t work for me. The writing itself is fine, a nice easy read. This time however I did finish it.

I tried this series years ago with the first book but didn't find it very engaging and put the series on the back burner to maybe try another day. I'd heard talk about these books and having the opportunity randomly decided to try them. And I liked them. I liked the first book more than the second but enjoyed both. I'll probably at some point start reading the rest of the series but I'll definitely be reading the next book.
