Full House Episodes 15 & 16 Thoughts

• What I got from the Ji Eun/Hye Woo scene is that over however much time has passed they have become cautious friends. Their smiles of greeting and the way they interacted together really makes me feel that the two of them have spent some time together since their last canon scene together. Dare I say, they might even be friends? I really love that idea. I love how Hye Woo immediately tells Ji Eun that it wasn’t her fault (in so many words). I am very curious though about why she feels everything is so much her fault. He was the one who brought up marriage in the first place! Between Hye Woo and Min Hyuk I am really happy that Ji Eun has friends that are a lot more worthy of her, and I do truly believe both of them will prove to be great friends to her. I don’t doubt that Min Hyuk will still be wonderful and there for her despite her rejecting his marriage proposal.
• Which, speaking of, what was he thinking proposing to Ji Eun? He knows that she was still in love with Young Jae. Sigh. I suppose he knew Young Jae was going to eventually return and so he wanted to move before it was too late. I actually do love very much just how hard he fought for her and that he didn’t give up until the bitter end (ie, Ji Eun turning him down which she did, I thought, very sensitively, by mentioning how painful waiting has been for her and how she didn’t want him to wait like that for her.) I also liked him telling Young Jae – “It’s just that you staying with my woman makes me uncomfortable.” – even as it irritated me slightly. I like that he fought so hard and never gave up and I feel sorry for him. I did find it interesting that though she was clearly surprised and uncomfortable Ji Eun never actually said anything then or privately to deny what Min Hyuk said.
• I knew it would never work for them but they really do have this wonderful relationship and, like with Ji Hoo, I firmly believe that Ji Eun could have been happen with Min Hyuk at any point in the story if things had gone slightly differently. I love how they make each other smile. I love that more than Ji Eun and Young Jae’s bickering flirting. Even in the end for Min Hyuk, thinking of her makes him smile. Poor guy.
• I like that in the end Young Jae fought for Ji Eun too. He appeared to give up and then despite not knowing that she’d turned Min Hyuk down or if she still loved him, he went to her and laid his heart bare. I was kind of impressed.
• I also liked him begging his father’s forgiveness for Yi Eun’s sake, and Yi Eun’s interactions with all her in-laws. Though Young Jae telling her they weren’t her family was really harsh.
• I loved her kicking him out of the house after he said it was his. Her expression when she opened the door to throw out his bag was awesomely sarcastic. Young Jae retreating to a monastery was definitely not what I was expecting though I don’t know how much good it did do for him.
• I was actually really pleased that Ji Eun’s friendships with Hee Jin and Dong Wook haven’t healed, that they aren’t back to the closeness they had at the start of the show and don’t appear as if they ever will, because after what they did to her and continued to do I really didn’t want her to forgive them even as I was expecting her to.
Episode 16
• Ji Eun was so awesome in this episode. From the first episode to the final one she has grown so much and she was so confidant here. I love that she ends the series as a successful screenwriter who has a career she’s good at and happy with and that is a priority for her. I love that she doesn’t immediately take Young Jae back. I love that she made him squirm before giving him her answer and that the answer was no. The man she’s been in love with for a long time has finally asked her that and she says no, and I just found that so strong and awesome of her. I loved that she made him work for it and woo her and earn a yes. I love that she waited until he finally told her that he loved her before saying yes.
• I haven’t mentioned it before but I do love the use of cleaning and how it is a theme throughout the entire show and how it changes throughout. It was pretty interesting, if at times annoying, to watch how it changed.
• Finally I love the final scenes of the episode. It was all delightful.
- I was actually pretty happy that Young Jae and Min Hyuk were friends again.
- I was pleased with the hint that perhaps Min Hyuk and Hye Woo might get together.
- I was pleased that Min Hyuk reacted to Ji Eun’s rejection exactly as I expected – with grace and remaining her friend.
- I loved the dinner party the four of them had. I adore so much the idea of the four of them being lifelong friends, and how it was clear, in that scene, that Ji Eun and Hye Woo are friends now. That just makes me very happy.
- But most of all I was very happy with Young Jae and Ji Eun’s final scene. It was so nice to see them interacting and being together, having fun and enjoying being with each other, without any of the bickering that characterised their relationship up until that point. I didn’t think it was possible but it was wonderful.
I was struck anew about the lack of physicality in kdramas (and I’m assuming jdramas). If this was re-made into a Western show there would be kissing everywhere and almost kisses and sexual tension and walking in on the other person in the shower and making out and very possibly sex. Instead we get two very chaste close-lipped kisses in the entire sixteen episodes. And overall I’m not actually bothered by no sex but in some cases the lack of physical affection really sticks out. When he confessed his love for her in 16 and they truly kissed for the first time it should have been – passionate. It just came off very weird considering.
